Certifications – What Do They Mean?
The International Commission for Hair Removal Certification (ICHRC) has the distinction of presenting valid competency-based certification examinations. Testing is provided to enhance the professional growth of members and the Society and all allied health practitioners; including physicians, electrologists, nurses and others authorized to practice in the jurisdiction where they reside. Certification helps assure the public that the provider has the knowledge and skill to provide the safest and most effective hair removal service available.
There are three levels of certification. For electrologists, the entry level "Certified Clinical Electrologist" (CCE) is for those using the needle modality. The second level, to which the CCE is a prerequisite, is the "Certified Medical Electrologist" (CME) certification. The CME certification tests for advanced knowledge and skill in needle modalities as well as laser and light-based hair removal modalities. The CME certification is required in the State of Florida for electrologists wishing to perform laser and light-based hair removal services. Other states are currently considering following Florida by requiring this certification for electrologists.
The newest, third level of certification is the Certified Laser Hair Removal Professional (CLHRP). This exam was designed for allied health practitioners; including physicians, nurses and others authorized in the jurisdiction where they reside who practice laser and light-based hair removal and do not personally practice needle hair removal modalities.
An Esthetician is a facial specialist with formal schooling/training and certification that includes specialized skin care, facials, micropigmentation, acne treatment, chemical exfoliation, microdermabrasion, corrective make-up, skin structure, dermal disorders and waxing – along with a host of other items.
